Hyderabad FC recorded their first victory in the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) campaign with a convincing 4-0 win over Mohammedan SC. The away game at Kishore Bharati Krirangan here was an intense display of Hyundai attack – something that went directly forward thanks to Allan Paulista, Stefan Sapic, and Parag Shrivas. Mohammedan SC, seeking a home win to make their claim, walked out with their tails between their legs as Hyderabad FC scripted an orchestrated victory in yet another impressive performance that took them up the league table.
Early goals set the tone
The match began very much in energy, as Hyderabad FC took an early lead in the first few minutes. Allan Paulista was not behind in his notion to leave his mark, pouncing on a defensive blunder by Padam Chettri in the 4th minute and scoring Hyderabad FC’s opening goal. That early strike saw Mohammedan SC being relegated to play defensive football immediately and set a dynamic pace for Hyderabad.
Paulista’s early goal defines his presence on the pitch and holds the rest of the match in a treasure.
Thangboi Singto’s team remained on a confident note and kept creeping Mohammedan’s backline as they expanded the lead by swift passes and controlled possession at bay.
Stefan Sapic's Goal Opener
Hyderabad FC did not rest on their laurels after Paulista’s early goal. Only eight minutes later, they doubled their lead when Stefan Sapic placed a perfect header. A corner by Cy Goddard saw Sapic well-positioned to connect with the ball, which thudded into the net. Hyderabad FC extended their lead to 2-0 and seemed very much in control, while Mohammedan SC seemed lost for words to rebuild again.
Strategic positioning and coordination brought about Sapic’s goal, and set-piece tactics marked the Hyderabad FC. This was also a show in teamwork between Goddard and Sapic, identifying Hyderabad’s versatility in offensive play, using ground passes and aerial moves to threaten the Mohammedan SC defense.
Paulista's Second Goal A Power Play
Only three minutes later, Allan Paulista scored again, his second of the match. Parag Shrivas found Paulista open in the third attacking third – again an easy chance taken without any kind of hesitation, which further underlined the Brazilian’s instincts and which set him as the great man of the match.
By the 15th minute, Hyderabad FC had built a substantial lead in the scoreline at 3-0, which put immense pressure on Mohammedan SC to change their tactics.
The quick passes by Hyderabad FC made it easy for them to exploit gaps left in Mohammedan SC’s defense. Allan Paulista’s second goal did reveal how best to go about such areas as defense and the missed opportunities that were available.
Change in Strategy and Defense Mistakes
The onslaught was met with Mohammedan SC’s coach Andrey Chernyshov who threw in fresh faces on the field in a desperate bid to change the course of the match. Substitutes Cesar Manzoki, Mohammed Irshad, and Makan Chothe were ushered in to infuse life into the team and generate at least a couple of scoring chances. The Hyderabad FC defence stood strong but didn’t give them the slightest opportunity to make a comeback.
Hyderabad FC nearly extended their lead before half-time when Andrei Alba’s attempt narrowly missed the target. The near miss at the end did not wane the confidence of the boys and they kept their cool and chanted, desperately wanting to hold onto their lead.
During the second half, Hyderabad FC gave no such indication of slowing down. Already instrumental in the first half, Parag Shrivas made his mark on the scoresheet with a long-range effort in the 51st minute. The impressive strike thus gave Hyderabad FC a lead of 4-0 and it marked Shrivas’ maiden ISL goal, adding a memorable highlight to his season.
Shrivas was one from the many contracts Hyderabad FC signed. Players like Shrivas were marshaled forward to seal the deal in Hyderabad FC’s quest to win at all cost. Something as simple as scoring from distance made Mohammedan SC nervous with Hyderabad FC’s options in attacking.
